Ladies second seed Stephens will be up against Japanese wildcard entrant Naomi Osaka in the third fixture of the day at the grandstand. The Japanese Osaka beat Mariana Duque-Marino in straight sets in the second round here after coming through a second set tie-breaker. She had earlier downed Kiki Bertens 6-4, 6-2 in the first round. She has not had the best of times in the circuit this season but her performances have been getting better.

Stephens beat Olga Govortsova in straight sets in her second round fixture on Wednesday following a tough three set win over Louisa Chirico in the first round. She came back from one set down to defeat her opponent 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 on that particular occasion. The American had also beaten Magda Linette as USA took on Poland in the Federation Cup a few weeks ago.

This will be the first career meeting between these two ladies.

Fifth seeded Australian Bernard Tomic will take on Illya Marchenko of Ukraine in the first fixture of the day at the cancha central. Tomic has not dropped a set at the tournament so far and produced a couple of solid displays against Rajeev Ram in the first round and Adrian Mannarino in the second. His victory over Ram in the first round would have given the Australian some great confidence as he had gone down to the former in the first round at the ATP Delray Beach.

Ukrainian Marchenko took three sets to get past Ryan Harrison in an extremely hard-fought contest that ended 7-6(3), 4-6, 7-6(5). He had also downed Tommy Paul in the first round in straight sets after coming out on top in the second set tie-breaker.

The duo have met on one previous occasion with Marchenko winning in straight sets. However, the Australian has come on leaps and bounds since and should be able to turn the tables on Thursday.
