In-form Marcel Granollers continues his quest to reach another ATP final when he takes on Polish veteran Lukasz Kubot in the second round of ATP Gstaad.
Granollers arrives in Gstaad on the back of a great win in Umag which saw him reach the final before being outplayed by the outstanding Marin Cilic. “I think Marin was much better than me. He played a very good match,” Granollers said after his 6-4, 6-2 defeat. “I was up 4-2 in the first set but I did not close out the set. Marin started to play better and better. The second set, I didn’t know how to win a point. I congratulate him on how he played."
Granollers is yet another fast improving Spaniard trailblazing his way towards the world's top 20. If he represented any other nation he would already be a big star but instead his exploits are lost on a Spanish public already saturated with tennis success at the very highest level.
If he can hold his form, he could have another very good week on the clay. With dangerman Mikhail Youzhny already out, the main threats to Granollers in the bottom half are Grigor Dimitrov and Feliciano Lopez, both very beatable opponents for the Spaniard.
Regarding this match, Granollers leads 2-0 on the head-to-head with both wins coming in straight sets back in 2010. Look for him to make it a hat-trick.
