Argentina's Leonardo Mayer is up against Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in the first round of ATP Washington later today.
Mayer was seeded third in a very weak Los Angeles field last week but there's no such luxury for the Argentine this week. He's unseeded and unlikely to progress too far since the winner of this one will probably face fourth seed Tommy Haas in the second round.
And it'll be tough for him to get past Garcia-Lopez, yet another player who's almost lost among Spain's vast riches of tennis talent. But he's been ranked in the world's top 30 in the past and he'll be sensing a chance as Mayer surprisingly lost to the American Rajeev Ram in the Farmers Classic quarters last week.
Plus Garcia-Lopez leads 1-0 on the head-to-head, winning 6-4, 7-5 in Johannesburg three years ago and he's had some good results recently, making his first ATP semi-final of the year in Stuttgart last week.
Prediction: Garcia-Lopez in two.
