Janko Tipsarevic takes on Brazil's Thomaz Bellucci in the last four of the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart.
Tipsarevic kept his hopes alive of making his second ATP final of the season with a 6-7(6), 7-6(2), 6-4 win over Bjorn Phau in just under three hours. However the top seed came desperately close to crashing out as Phau held four match points when he served for the match at 6-5 in the second set but the occasion got to him,
"I’m a little bit lucky that I managed to win and save four match points," Tipsarevic conceded. "I kept calm in the third set and I was playing good. We were out on the court so long and it’s not easy to close out the match no matter who you’re playing. He went for a little bit too much on two occasions, but on the other two match points I think I played well."
Things were far more straightforward for Bellucci who took out Cedrik-Marcel Stebe 6-4, 6-1, dropping just three points on serve in the second set and breaking the German five times in total.
Bellucci is into his first main tour semi-final since the Brasil Open back in February. The Brazilian won his only previous clash with Tipsarevic 5-7, 7-5, 6-2 at Indian Wells three years ago.
Prediction: Bellucci in two.
