Fernando Verdasco takes on compatriot Marcel Granollers in the semi-finals of the Croatia Open this afternoon.
2008 Croatia Open champion Verdasco eased past wildcard Andrey Kuznetsov 6-2, 6-2 in the quarters and he's two matches away from his first ATP title in two years. The left-hander has yet to be troubled this week but that could all change today as Granollers is the fourth seed and beat Verdasco in three sets in last year's Swiss Open final.
Verdasco will have been happy with a solid serving performance which saw him save all six of the break points he faced. He will also be encouraged by the scrappy nature of Granollers' quarter-final win.
Granollers suffered a first set blowout against Germany's Matthias Bachinger, dropping it in just 31 minutes before hitting back to win 1-6, 6-3, 7-5. He served for the match at 5-3 in the decider but dropped serve before breaking again two games later.
Prediction: Verdasco in straight sets.
