Ferrer, who has reached the quarter-finals at this tournament twice before (2005 and 2008) will look to at least emulate that record this year. He was ranked fifth in the world for most part of 2011 but since then has slid down one spot.
The Spaniard has had some decent results this season on clay, before losing to Rafael Nadal twice and Roger Federer in one of the tournaments. He was a semi-finalist at the ATP Rome Masters, a quarter-finalist at Madrid and managed another semi-final at the ATP Barcelona this season.
Lacko’s season has had an abysmal start. He comes into the tournament with five straight losses under his belt, including first round exits at ATP Nice, Belgrade and Bucharest after he managed a second round at Miami.
The two have played each other once before this match, with Ferrer winning that encounter way back in 2007 at ATP Stuttgart.
The Ferrer v Lacko match will be the first match on the Court No. 2 on Tuesday to begin at 11 am.
