Murray won the title last year after Djokovic retired midway through their final to avoid aggravating a hip injury ahead of the US Open. It was the British player's second Cincinnati title, he triumphed back in 2008, the year he made his first US Open final.

Cincinnati has been one of Federer's favourite hunting grounds over the years, it's been one of the few places where Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have been unable to touch him. The Swiss legend will be going for an incredible fifth title this year and he'll be fresher than the others having taken a week off instead of competing in Toronto.

Djokovic has never managed to win the Cincinnati title, finishing runner-up three times. However it remains to be seen if he has enough left in the tank to challenge for the title this year, he went straight from the Olympics to Toronto and he's been involved in the latter stages over there.

Juan Martin Del Potro may have lost early in Toronto, struggling with jetlag and the quick transition from grass to hard courts but he'll be a big threat over the next few weeks and providing he's acclimatised by now, he'll be one of the main contenders this week.

Mardy Fish has been picking up the wins again recently, reaching the Washington semis and the Toronto quarters. The American is a two-time Cincinnati finalist and providing his dodgy ankle isn't giving him too much grief, he'll surely be a contender once again this year.
