The Winston-Salem Open enters its second year next week and the field looks capable of delivering an action-packed week. Headliners here include defending champion John Isner, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Alexadr Dolgopolov, Tomas Berdych and Andy Roddick.
Gael Monfils was also scheduled to take part but a knee injury ruled him out. The former world No. 7 has slid down the rankings of late due to his struggles to achieve full fitness. His compatriot, Tsonga, is also unsure of participation after injuring himself by running into a fire hydrant.
Isner grew up in Greensboro, not too far from the Wake Forest venue. He’ll be hoping to lift the trophy again, and remain the only player on the list of champions. Fellow countryman Roddick could provide a big threat. He’s dipped in and out of form this season but remains a capable and competitive player at this level.
