Maria Sharapova faces Petra Kvitova in the Ladies' Final at Wimbledon on Saturday afternoon.
Wimbledon 2011 has been a fantastic advert for tennis, with some exciting and entertaining matches taking place over the last two weeks at the All England Club.
The biggest story in the women's draw has not, however, been the exit of the Williams sisters but the stunning return to Centre Court of Maria Sharapova. The Russian, who won the Championships in 2004, aged just 17, but a shoulder injury in 2008 seemed to have ended her dreams of a second Wimbledon title. She has fought back though and she is now on the cusp of what will be an emotional victory on Saturday.
Standing in Sharapova's way is Petra Kvitova and the Czech will not be an easy opponent to beat in the final of the women's tournament. The 21-year-old reached the semi finals at the All England Club last year and has gone from strength to strength in 2011, scoring career best results at both the Australian and French Opens. A win on Saturday could see Kvitova establish herself at the top of a new, post-Williams/Clijsters era of women's tennis, which is something fans of the sport have been longing for.
