Yanina Wickmayer will take on Christina McHale for a place in the quarter-finals of the Open GDF SuezYou can watch and bet on Wickmayer v McHale live for free at bet365 > live tennisYanina Wickmayer entered the WTA Paris Open immediately after returning from Fed Cup action for Belgium, and she’ll be pleased to have been handed an easy route through to the second round. She’d been dominating her first round matchup against Jill Craybas of the United States, before Craybas was forced to retire, with the score at 6-1, 0-0 in Wickmayer’s favour.
In order to make it into the last eight, Wickmayer will have to face another American. Rising star Christina McHale will be her opponent, having gotten past her compatriot Varvara Lepchenko in straight sets. The 6-4, 7-5 win might not have been particularly easy, but McHale did well to close out the contest in two sets.
Wickmayer has a 1-0 head to head record against McHale, after beating her 7-6(4), 6-3 in New Haven in 2009. There’s no sense in reading anything into this though, as McHale was very young at the time, and still ranked outside the top three hundred. Wickmayer will perhaps be the victor again on Thursday, but McHale will put up a big fight at the very least, and may even manage to upset the odds.
