Last year’s tournament gave newly crowned world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka the perfect opportunity to showcase her talents. The Belarusian played superbly throughout the week, and didn’t even come close to losing a set. After closing out Samantha Stosur in the final, 6-1, 6-2, Azarenka had earned an 18-0 match record for the season, and made it clear that she wasn’t feeling any pressure from being the top ranked player in the WTA.
Hopefully Azarenka will be back in 2013, and it seems like the only thing that could prevent her from returning would be an injury. The field will almost certainly be packed with talent, and competition for the title will be fierce.
