Despite securing a comfortable win, Williams acknowledged the effort put in by Scheepers. "That was definitely not easy,” explained the former world No. 1 after the contest. “I think she played really well, I didn't expect that."
The first round win didn’t seem to do much to change Serena’s outlook on tennis though. Whilst she claims to have no intentions of quitting just yet, Serena told ESPN, "I mean, I don't love tennis today, but I'm here, and I can't live without it ... so I'm still here and I don't want to go anywhere any time soon."
"It's not that I've fallen out of love; I've actually never liked sports, and I never understood how I became an athlete. I don't like working out; I don't like anything that has to do with working physically."
Serena isn’t feeling inspired at the moment, but very few people are expecting her to struggle against Jovanovski. She beat the Serb 6-1, 6-1 in last year’s U.S Open, and appears to be playing well enough to clinch another one-sided victory.
