Serena Williams faces a tough quarter-final against Angelique Kerber today at the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati

Serena Williams endured some tough moments in her third round meeting with Urszula Radwanska yesterday in Cincinnati, but she was able to bounce back from behind in both sets to claim a 6-4, 6-3 victory. Williams is compiling a huge winning streak at the moment and seems to be the favourite to win this week’s event.

Perhaps inevitably, Williams was asked after the match to compare Radwanska’s game with that of the Pole’s sister, Agnieszka. “I think they're both great players, and great sisters. I absolutely love seeing another pair of sisters doing so well on the tour,” replied Serena.

“Urszula has worked really hard, and me being a younger sister and Urszula being a younger sister too, I'm always looking for her to do well and I hope she does really well. Her game is great. What's best about her game is she's like her sister - she doesn't do anything badly. Those are always tough opponents to play.”

Serena’s opponent in the quarter-finals will be world No. 7 Angelique Kerber. Kerber was also engaged in a close fought two setter yesterday, from which she emerged with a 6-4, 7-6(5) triumph over Czech qualifier Andrea Hlavackova.

Williams and Kerber haven’t met competitively since 2007, leaving Williams with a 1-0 head to head record against the German. Kerber has improved vastly since then, but on current form, Serena appears to be almost unbeatable.
