The Italian is the seventh seed this week, and if she can start finding some more consistency is likely to feature in the quarter-finals at the very least.
Speaking after her win against Halep on Wednesday, Vinci remarked, “I expected a tough match - Simona is a talented young player. It could have been faster; I was up a set and 5-1 before she started to play better. But when I had another chance to take the match I served well to close it out. Last week I played on clay for Fed Cup,” she contineud, “but I like to play on hardcourts and I like to play indoors, so it has not really been too hard for me to adjust.”
Vinci will be back in action on Thursday against Bethanie Mattek-Sands. The American has a 1-0 head to head record against Vinci, but as the world No. 68 will enter this contest as the underdog. Seeing as Vinci appears to be feeling positive about her chances, it looks like she’ll be able to progress.
