Petra Kvitova looks almost unstoppable at the moment, and she displayed some of her best tennis in her quarter-final dismissal of Daniela Hantuchova on Wednesday. The Czech raced away to a 6-0, 2-0 lead in just under fifty minutes, before leaving the court with a 6-0, 6-4 win. “I surprised myself how well I was able to play early,” stated the world No. 2 after the match. “Now I'm feeling ready for Melbourne.”

Kvitova will top the rankings if she can win this event, but first she’ll have to contend with defending champion and Australian Open runner-up Na Li. Li also won her quarter-final match in straight sets, but was perhaps pushed a little more by her opponent, Lucie Safarova. Li was happy to have gotten some practice against a left-hander ahead of her meeting with Kvitova.

“The lefty is really totally different than right-hand because of the serve. Also the spin is totally different,” remarked Li.

This will be an intriguing semi-final. Li seems to excel when playing in Australia, whilst Kvitova is in the best form of her career. Kvitova seems likely to have the edge, but it wouldn’t be a shock to see Li reach the final.
