Jelena Jankovic and Yanina Wickmayer are poised to meet for an exiting first round showdown at the WTA Paris OpenYou can watch and bet on Jankovic v Wickmayer live for free at bet365 > live tennisSerbia’s Jelena Jankovic is seeded for this week’s WTA Paris Open, and she’s considered to be in with a decent chance of challenging for the title. The former world No. 1 has been handed a tough first round draw though, as she’ll be up against Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium.
Jankovic will be pleased with her efforts at the weekend, as she was part of the Serbian team that defeated Belgium 3-2 in the first round of the Fed Cup World Group. This was a landmark victory for Serbia, who had never previously won a World Group main draw match.
Jankovic’s role in the tie was cut short due to a left thigh injury. She had been scheduled to face Wickmayer in the reverse singles rubber. As fate would have it, the pairing will now face off on Tuesday instead, albeit in much warmer and more pleasant conditions.
Following a 6-2, 6-0 thrashing in Rome last year, Jankovic has a 1-0 head to head record against Wickmayer. She has a good chance of doubling her head to head lead over the Belgian on Tuesday, though this time around she can’t expect such a straightforward win. Wickmayer’s recent form has been pretty impressive, and she’s made it clear that she intends to climb the rankings this year.
