Wickmayer and fellow Belgian Xavier Malisse both failed to comply with regulations regarding doping and have received suspensions.

Breaking away from tips we provided just 24 hours ago, avoid Yanina Wickmayer in the futures market for women's tennis.  While Wickmayer was beginning to look like a promising prospect for Grand Slam titles on the women's tour, now she doesn't look like she will be playing in any Grand Slams until the 2011 Australian Open.

Wickmayer and Xavier Malisse have been handed one year suspensions for failing to report their whereabouts to antidoping authorities on a consistent basis.

If you've already sprinkled Wickmayer at +6600 to win the Aussie and are worried about not getting your money back, don't be: most sportsbooks  provide refunds on futures bets when a player does not play a single point in the event bet on.  If a player you picked plays just one point and then twists her ankle or something and has to withdraw, it's a losing bet.  But if the player plays no points it is a push or better put, a refund.

You'll have to consult your sportsbook to make sure but they should be providing a refund in the majority of cases.

ATP veteran Xavier Malisse, a former Wimbledon semifinalist, was also handed a one year suspension.  While Malisse is well over the hill when it comes to competing in Grand Slams (will he retire?) Wickmayer appeared to be an outside threat for hard court slams.  The suspension, if upheld, will cost her a year of her prime as she's barely 20 and was looking great on tour recently.

Look for Wickmayer's return in the South Pacific in early 2011.
