The Teen Queen is into her first quarterfinal of a Grand Slam draw as Pavlyuchenkova defeated Vera Zvonareva at Roland Garros on Sunday.
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, after defeating Vera Zvonareva on Sunday, is into her first Grand Slam quarterfinal of her career. The young Russian, who is the highest ranked teenager on the women's tour, appears to be heading toward the top of women's tennis.
Entering Roland Garros this season Pavlyuchenkova was ranked 15th in the world but she's looking more and more like a top ten player on tour. If she can barge through to the final the top ten is almost certainly where she will end up when the rankings update following the French Open.
The final score in the match between Zvonareva and Pavlyuchenkova was 7-6, 2-6, 6-2 and the loss by the three seed means that Victoria Azarenka, the four seed at the French Open, is the highest ranked player still alive in the tournament.
Pavyluchenkova now awaits the winner between Francesca Schiavone and Jelena Jankovic.
