The WTA Cincinnati final between Kim Clijsters and Maria Sharapova takes place later today.

Clijsters and Sharapova are playing their first match since the Belgian returned to the tour last summer. Clijsters is going for her second WTA Premier title of the season after winning the self-styled “fifth grand slam” at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami earlier this year.

Both have already won two WTA titles this year with Clijsters also triumphing in Brisbane and Sharapova winning Memphis and Strasbourg.

Clijsters has been following Sharapova's comeback from injury with interest. "From the return onwards, Maria hits everything as flat and hard as she can," she said. "Against Justine (Henin) at the French Open she played a really good match where you saw the best Maria was back in there. It's great to see. She's a great fighter, never gives up and is serving a lot better."

Clijsters received a big boost in the last four when Ana Ivanovic retired after just three games with a foot injury so she will be the fresher of the two going into the match while Sharapova had to come through a tough semi-final against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
