Caroline Wozniacki goes for her first Indian Wells title tonight against Marion Bartoli.
Wozniacki has cemented her place at the top of the rankings with a strong run this week in Indian Wells and she looks poised to claim her first BNP Paribas Open title.
The Dane made this final last year but was outplayed in straight sets by Jelena Jankovic. However twelve months later Wozniacki goes into tonight's clash with Bartoli as strong favourite after a 6-1, 6-2 demolition of Maria Sharapova in the semi-finals.
"I definitely didn't expect such a score, but I'm very pleased about the way I played and the way I got my tactics to work," Wozniacki said. "It was very important for me to play good defence today, because Maria is hitting the ball hard. It was important to keep depth to my shots and make her move."
Bartoli has been talking up her form quite a bit this year but until this week, the results had not quite materialised for the Frenchwoman. However it's all clicked for her in the Californian desert and after benefiting from an injury to Kim Clijsters she's pulled off impressive wins over Ana Ivanovic and Yanina Wickmayer.
However Wozniacki leads their head-to-head 4-2 and won 6-1, 6-1 when they met last month in Doha.
