The event has been crucial in Henin’s Wimbledon preparations in the past. She beat Kim Clijsters in the 2001 final before going on to reach her first slam final in SW19 two weeks later, and was a runner-up in 2003.
With Dinara Safina already out and no one else in the top 20, Henin is overwhelming favourite to take the title here. Since she returned to the game she has made it clear that Wimbledon has been her big goal so it will be very interesting to see what sort of form she is in and whether she has made any noticeable changes to her game for the grass.
The fast improving Maria Kirilenko is the third seed here and fourth seed Yaroslava Shvedova is another player to watch out for. Shvedova has a crushing forehand and played exceptionally well on the clay, making the quarters in Paris. She has the potential to be a threat this week.
