Schnyder is aiming to make her second tour final in as many weeks. She looked every inch a former top ten player during her second round destruction of Alize Cornet for the loss of just three games but then rode her luck in the quarters against big hitting Georgian Anna Tatishvili, Schnyder fighting back to win 2-6, 6-2, 7-5.
"Tatishvili hit the ball very hard and the temperature was very high, so I'm happy to win today," the Swiss said afterwards. "I played in the same conditions last week in Budapest so I'm more used to it now. And I'm happy I played the first quarterfinal of the day, so now I have plenty of time to rest for tomorrow."
Zahlavova Strycova also had an epic quarter-final, outlasting Swede Johanna Larsson 6-2, 4-6, 7-5. It has been a good couple of months for the Czech who made the last 16 at Wimbledon though she has definitely benefited this week from Lucie Safarova's early withdrawal.
