19 year old Hercog, Slovenia's top player, with a ranking of 57, is enjoying her first full year on the WTA tour. She does not have any titles to her name as of yet but a final appearance in Acapulco earlier this year suggested she may not have long to wait.
She would love to make her make in her home tournament where she is seeded seventh but she may have to defeat Czech Wimbledon semi-finalist Petra Kvitova to do so. The duo are seeded to meet in the quarters.
Hercog has had mixed success in the past couple of weeks. She was unlucky to lose a tight quarter-final against Patty Schnyder in Budapest and then illness curtailed her run in Prague at the second round.
Bovina came through qualifying over the weekend but this is a tricky first round draw for Hercog as the Russian has been far better than her current ranking of 155 suggests. She was ranked 14 in the world six years ago but has had a torrid few years and is down scrapping in 25Ks most of the year.
Bovina may have experience but she has been struggling to get through WTA qualifying recently and Hercog will be extra motivated in her home tournament.
