Jelena Jankovic is back in form and the Serbian star leads the field at the Whirlpool Monterrey Open.
This time last year Jankovic arrived in Mexico struggling for form and quickly crashed out in the first round. The former world number one will be confident of greater things this week after a couple of successful weeks in the Middle East. She made back-to-back semi-finals in the illustrious WTA Premier events in Dubai and Doha, picking up a small fortune in prize money as well as no shortage of confidence.
Jankovic struggled to adjust to the altitude last year and it remains to be seen how she copes this time round. has a tough opener against recent Bogota champion Lourdes Dominguez Lino. However the Spaniard is also making a drastic surface change, from clay to fast hard courts.
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova returns to defend her title. Still just 19, it will be fascinating to see whether the Russian makes a splash in the majors this year after an impressive twelve months which saw her hit a career high of 14 last month.
Watch out for the talented fifth seed Anastasija Sevastova from Latvia. She knocked out Jankovic at this event last year and could face her again in the quarters.
Gisela Dulko will be a dangerous floater in the draw having just picked up the Acapulco title on clay last week. The Argentine opens against Iveta Benesova which could be an upset waiting to happen.
