The second round of the WTA Monterrey Open will conclude on Thursday, and big names such as Jelena Jankovic and Anastasija Sevastova will be on court

Play begins with a match between Lucie Hradecka and Ksenia Pervak. Pervak caused a stir in round one by ousting fourth seed Julia Goerges, and will now have her sights set on the quarter-finals. That said, Hradecka is placed above her in the world rankings, and should be competitive at the very least. This could be an exciting match.

The second contest will involve WTA Acapulco champion Gisela Dulko and Canadian qualifier Aleksandra Wozniak. Dulko is enjoying a superb run of form, and enters this match as the favourite. Wozniak produced one of the best performances of the first round against wildcard entrant Ximena Hermoso, but seems destined for an uphill struggle here against Dulko.

Following from this, there will be a matchup between Alize Cornet and Anastasija Sevastova. Sevastova is the fifth seed this week, but could be in for a real challenge against the former world No. 11. Both players progressed past the first round with straightforward two-set victories.

The day’s final match will be a showdown between No. 1 seed Jelena Jankovic and Sybille Bammer. Jankovic has an 8-1 head to head record against Bammer, and should be able to find a passage through to the quarter-finals. Bammer is currently ranked outside of the top hundred, and hasn’t beaten the Serb since 2006.
