22 year old Canadian Wozniak is ranked 35 with a career best of 21 which she reached last June. She has not had a particularly stand out year to date, yet to go further than the second round in any tournament and this is her first event since the Fed Cup at the beginning of February. As seventh seed in the field she could do with a decent run here.

Granville is now mainly a doubles specialist with her singles ranking having slipped to 227. She did well in a challenger in the States a few weeks back, reaching the semi-finals but has not really competed much on the WTA tour, losing in round one of Memphis a couple of weeks ago.     

Wozniak leads 3-2 on the head-to-head but of those matches, the most telling was when they played in last year’s US Open after Wozniak’s breakthrough year. She outplayed Granville 6-1, 7-6 that day.
