Fifth seed Agnes Szavay takes on Germany’s Anna Lena Groenefeld tonight in the Monterrey Open second round.

With lots of points to defend coming up at Indian Wells and Miami as well as the clay-court season, Szavay will be keen to find some form this week.

The rankings suggest she will be strong favourite for this place, at 31, she’s 29 places higher in the list than Groenefeld.

However, the altitude at tournaments in Mexico is always difficult to adjust to and accounts for the large number of upsets already this week. Szavay avoided becoming another first round seed casualty but she was far from her best during a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win over Julia Goerges.

Groenefeld, the hard-hitting German looked much more comfortable during her 6-2, 6-4 win over Lucie Hradecka of the Czech Republic so Szavay will need to up her game.
