Kim Clijsters enters the tournament as the defending champion, and will be hoping that the shoulder injury that she sustained in Indian Wells doesn’t continue to trouble her.
Venus Williams has recently confirmed that she’ll be absent from the draw, due to an abdominal injury. That said, the draw is anything but short of quality. The vast majority of the top fifty will be in action, including Caroline Wozniacki, the current world No. 1. Wozniacki has been in lethal form of late, winning tournaments in Dubai and more recently in Indian Wells. In between these successes, she also reached the final in Doha.
It looks like this year’s competition will be an entertaining one, and there are a number of players that could leave Miami with the title. Other notable challengers include Vera Zvonareva, Francesca Schiavone, Samantha Stosur, Na Li and Jelena Jankovic.
