Elena Baltacha will be hoping to continue her stunning form at the Istanbul Cup against Andrea Petkovic.

Baltacha sent shockwaves through the draw by knocking out top seed and world number eight Francesca Schiavone 6-4, 6-2 on Thursday night. It was Baltacha’s third top ten win of the year (and her career) and the British number one continues to storm towards the world’s top fifty.

"In the three weeks off after Wimbledon, one of the things I worked on with my coach was trying to expose my opponent then run around and finish with a forehand," Baltacha said. "It's really paying off. I'm confident I can hit a big forehand when the situation comes up. I'm delighted with how I'm playing."   

However she has another tough one against sixth seed Petkovic, the world number 35 who battled through a three setter against Ekaterina Makarova, the Eastbourne champion, in round two. Petkovic had a great run to the final in Holland on grass just before Wimbledon and is a player on the rise.

Baltacha is bound to have a dip form-wise after the heights she hit against Schiavone and we predict Petkovic will take advantage and reach the semi-finals.
