Justine Henin and Kim Clijsters are the favourites to triumph from a quality field when Indian Wells gets underway later this week.

The Williams sisters are not competing and in their absence you would be wise to place your money on one of the Belgians. Neither has competed since the Australian Open, instead putting in some serious time on the practise court for the challenges to come.

Clijsters is a two-time champion, winning Indian Wells in 2003 and 2005 while Henin won it just the once back in 2004.

Elena Dementieva, Svetlana Kuznetsova and Caroline Wozniacki will also be all right in the mix.
