This year’s WTA Doha Open will involve some of the biggest names in tennis, and promises to be one of the season’s most exciting tournaments
With a star-studded field, this season’s Qatar Ladies Open looks set to provide us with a fascinating week of tennis. Leading the field as the No. 1 seed this year will be Caroline Wozniacki, who clinched last week’s WTA Dubai Open. Following her displays in Dubai, the Dane will also enter this event as the world No. 1. She receives a bye to round two.
Other recipients of a bye include Vera Zvonareva, Francesca Schiavone and Na Li, who are the second, third and fourth seeds respectively. Any of these three players could mount a serious title challenge here, though the standard of the draw here will make things difficult for everyone involved. Zvonareva was the runner-up when this event was last held in 2008, losing to Maria Sharapova in the final.
The other seeded players are Jelena Jankovic, Victoria Azarenka, Agnieszka Radwanska and Shahar Peer. These players will be outsiders here, but could threaten if they find form. Other notable competitors in the draw include Flavia Pennetta, Alisa Kleybanova and Svetlana Kuznetsova.
