19 year old Hercog has been very consistent over the past month, making the semi-finals of her home event in Portoroz as well as a couple of quarters in Budapest and Prague. However she is not so comfortable on fast surfaces and has not played much indoors over the past couple of years.
Groenefeld is ranked 130 in the world but has been inside the top 50 in the past. She won through qualifying and playing several matches already on the courts may give her an advantage.
She will need it though as she has been in poor form recently, losing her last three matches on the WTA Tour before this week.
Hercog may struggle early on with the fast conditions but she should win through in three.
