The stars of the WTA Tour are in Doha this week for a thrilling climax to the year as the world's top eight fight it out for the chance to be the year-end champion.

Caroline Wozniacki enjoyed a stunning 2010 season and finished the year comfortably ranked number one. However despite winning WTA Premier titles in Tokyo, Beijing and Montreal the Dane's achievement was overshadowed by her failure to reach a slam final. The semi-finals of the US Open was the furthest she got, but victory this week would help to silence some of her critics.

Kim Clijsters' love affair with Flushing Meadows continued and the Belgian made it three US Open titles. Clijsters has not competed since New York due to a foot infection but lack of match practise has never hindered her in the past.

Vera Zvonareva finally realised her potential on the biggest stage by making the Wimbledon and US Open finals. Zvonareva will be determined to end her year on a high and she will be tough to beat indoors.

Francesca Schiavone stunned everyone including herself by taking the French Open title but the rest of the year has not been quite so spectacular for the Italian. Not such a threat on fast surfaces it will be a surprise if she makes it past the group stages this week.

Victoria Azarenka is the in-form player having taken advantage of Serena Williams' withdrawal to seal her place with victory at the Kremlin Cup last week. Azarenka has peaked over the past few weeks and could be the surprise package in Doha.
