As the draw for the round robin stage of the WTA Championships was announced on Sunday, we take a closer look at the red group

Caroline Wozniacki was the runner-up in last year’s WTA Championships, where she fell in the final against Kim Clijsters. The Dane returns here as the top seed, and she’ll be looking to finally get her hands on the title. She’s got a lot of work to do though, as her group includes Petra Kvitova, Vera Zvonareva and Agnieszka Radwanska.

Wimbledon champion Kvitova is a big threat here, especially after her recent title success in Linz. She’s won five titles this year, and her displays in the tail end of the season have been impressive. There’s a reasonable chance that the Czech will progress from the group.

World No. 6 Zvonareva will also be worth keeping an eye on. She’s been consistent throughout the season, and having reached the final of this competition in 2008, will be eager to go one better and top the field. This will be her fourth successive appearance at this tournament.

Radwanska, the eighth seed, should also be competitive. She takes a 11-1 post U.S Open match record into this week, and recent title successes in Tokyo and Beijing put her in a good position to challenge.
