The Sony Ericsson WTA Tour heads to Budapest for the GDF Suez Grand Prix.

The grass court season is well and truly over for another year for the WTA tour and now there’s another brief chance for the clay-court lovers to fill their boots over the next few weeks before the American hard court swing properly kicks into gear.

Favourite for the Budapest title is world number 27 and top seed Alisa Kleybanova who scored her first career title in Malaysia back in March.

Agnes Szavay is the defending champion and will be very popular in front of her home crowd. However Szavay has struggled for form in 2010 and is unlikely to threaten after a disappointing clay-court season.

Second seed Alexandra Dulgheru from Romania, has shot up the rankings over the past year and will be a serious contender this week, having won the Warsaw Open in May.

Watch out for talented young Slovenia Polona Hercog who was very impressive in South America earlier this year, making the Acapulco final.

Veteran Swiss Patty Schnyder is also in the field and is always a threat on clay. Schnyder’s top ten days are behind her now but she could be a dark horse this week.
