The tour heads to Birmingham for this event, and this will give the players that are involved an opportunity to play grass court tennis in England in the run-up to Wimbledon.Although this event doesn’t have quite the same level of prestige as Wimbledon, it may be hugely important nonetheless. Many of the players wont have stepped foot on a grass court prior to this tournament, and it will be intriguing to see how well everyone plays. We will get to see a number of big names playing here in Birmingham, and their form in particular will be under investigation.The most notable players here are Caroline Wozniacki, Maria Sharapova, Yanina Wickmayer and Aravane Rezai. Wozniacki will be hoping to compensate for a fairly inconsistent clay court season, and will be trying to reassert herself as a serious force during the grass season. Sharapova and Rezai, on the other hand, did not fare too well at the French Open, but will still be attempting to build upon fairly recent tournament victories. As always, the grass season will generate plenty of excitement, and this tournament marks the beginning of this.
