World number one Caroline Wozniacki looks to put a couple disappointing Grand Slams behind her as she prepares for the 2011 Swedish Open.
Caroline Wozniacki, the top seed in every tournament she plays in, will be in the hunt for yet another WTA title this week at the clay court event at Bastad, Sweden (2011 Collector Swedish Open).
The tournament is at the International level on tour, it awards $37,000 to the outright winner, and the depth of talent is certainly not that deep.
After Wozniacki there is not a top player in the event with Flavia Pennetta the second seed and Lucie Safarova the third seed.
It's hard to pick out a dangerous floater in the event although Aravane Rezai, unseeded, is capable of making a run to the final as she has a Premier Mandatory level title to her credit on clay (Madrid 2010). Rezai would have to play better than she has been playing recently to beat Wozniacki in the final however.
For betting odds, Wozniacki has the field crushed as
bet365 make the Dane a 1/2 favorite to win the entire tournament.
Second favorite Lucie Safarova comes in as a modest longshot at 6/1 while Pennetta is 7/1 and Rezai, probably the best value pick, is 18/1.
Should Wozniacki win the title it would be the 18th of her young career however, perhaps unfairly, it won't impress many people as the Dane continues to under-achieve in Grand Slam tournaments.
