Defending champion Andrea Petkovic is top seed for the Nurnberger Gastein Ladies this week.

This is Petkovic's first tournament since Wimbledon. She had a good run on the grass, making a final in Holland. She is the only player in the top 40 in the field.

One of the favourites for the title will be the in-form Czech sixth seed Barbara Zahlavova Strycova who made the final in Prague at the weekend and will now be inside the top 50.

Swiss Timea Bacsinszky is seeded second but she's short of wins and has gone out early for the past two weeks in Prague and Budapest. She has a difficult first round against the experienced Anna-Lena Groenefeld so could make another early exit.

Third seed Anabel Medina Garrigues is very experienced on clay and always tough to beat so she could go a long way here. 

Dangerous floaters to watch out for include Lucie Hradecka who made the semis in Prague last week, only losing to eventual champion Szavay and Germany's Julia Goerges who had an equally good run in Palermo.
