Viktor Troicki will meet Fabio Fognini on Wednesday in round two of the Monte Carlo Rolex MastersYou can watch and bet on the action from the ATP Monte Carlo Open at bet365Viktor Troicki is the eleventh seed for this year’s Monte Carlo Rolex Masters, and will be hoping to get some wins under his belt here. He began with a 7-6(4), 6-1, victory against spirited wildcard entrant Jean-Rene Lisnard, and will now face Fabio Fognini of Italy on Wednesday for a place in round three. The Serb will be the favourite against Fognini, but is by no means guaranteed an easy passage through to the next round.
Fognini managed to produce an impressive comeback against Kevin Anderson in round one, claiming a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 win. He enters this tournament as the world No. 53, but hasn’t been able to achieve much consistency this season. His service game has been shaky of late, and the fact that he’s only won 66% of his games on serve since the start of the 2011 season highlights this.
Troicki has a 1-0 head to head record against Fognini, following a hard court meeting in Beijing in 2009. The Serb won the match 7-6(5), 7-5, and will be aware that he didn’t have everything his own way. Whilst the world No. 16 is likely to beat Fognini again, it will be intriguing to see how much the switch to a clay court affects proceedings.
