Troicki learnt yesterday that he will be facing Novak Djokovic in the first round of the US Open so he will be very keen to get an extra couple of wins here to get a bit of momentum going into that clash. With Marcos Baghdatis' quarter-final exit the draw is now wide open.
It's a great chance for him to claim his first ATP title. He has made two finals so far in his career, losing in Washington two years ago and then Bangkok last autumn. He had an impressive 6-2, 6-3 quarter-final win over Radek Stepanek, ending the Czech's surprise run.
Istomin had to battle past Russian qualifier Teymuraz Gabashvili, saving four match points on the way to a 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 win.
Troicki won his only previous match with Istomin, 6-4, 6-3 three years ago in qualifying for ATP Moscow.
