Victoria Azarenka will be making a start to her WTA Championships title charge on Wednesday with a tricky group stage clash against Samantha Stosur. The Belarusian is making her third appearance in the competition this year, and she’ll be hoping that she can finally get through to the knockout stages this time around.

Azarenka’s opponent for her opening matchup will be U.S Open champion Samantha Stosur. Stosur produced a sharp performance on Tuesday to defeat former world No. 1 Maria Sharapova in straight sets (6-1, 7-5). After playing so well against Sharapova, the Aussie should be in a confident mood.

Azarenka seems likely to have the upper hand though, having won all four of her previous matches against Stosur. She’s never dropped a set against the world No. 7, and three of these four wins were very one-sided. Stosur shouldn’t be written off for any match this season, but she’s going to need to work hard to avoid defeat here.
