Venus is very much an unknown quantity coming into Flushing Meadows. The sisters are known for not needing a huge amount of match practise ahead of the slams but Venus is going into the tournament with no competitve hard court matches under her belt after injury has kept her out since Wimbledon.

Outside SW19, Venus' form in the other three slams has slowly declined over the years. Since she last made the US Open final in 2002, Venus has only once looked like a genuine title threat, back in 2007 when she made the semis.

However this year's tournament is the most open it's been for a long time and if Venus can play her way into some form, you never know. She should have few problems with the Italian Vinci who she defeated 6-1, 6-4 in Miami earlier this year.
