Venus Williams will continue her charge for a sixth Wimbledon title with a second round matchup against Kimiko Date-KrummYou can watch and bet on the action from Wimbledon at bet365Given that she’s only just made her return to competitive tennis, five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams has been in superb form of late. The former world No. 1 produced some good displays in Eastbourne, and opened her Wimbledon campaign with a straightforward 6-3, 6-1 victory over Akgui Amanmuradova.
The 31 year-old remains amongst the main contenders for the title, and her absence from the courts doesn’t seem to have had any major impact on her game. Her next contest will be a second round clash against Japanese veteran and world No. 57 Kimiko Date-Krumm.
This will be the first time that Williams and Date-Krumm meet in an official matchup, though this won’t complicate pre-match predictions. Williams should be able to stave of the threat of Date-Krumm, and it seems likely that this match won’t go beyond two sets. Date-Krumm looked assured in her 6-0, 7-5 success over Katie O’Brien in round one, but it’s highly unlikely that she’ll be able to dictate play against a player of Wiliiams’s ability.
