Venus Williams will take on Daniela Hantuchova on Thursday for a place in the semi-finals of the AEGON International

Venus Williams was handed a tough draw in this year’s AEGON International, but has produced two superb displays, and is certainly not playing like someone who’s just returned from a lengthy absence from the courts. Having gotten past eighth seed Andrea Petkovic in the first round here, she handed former world No. 1 Ana Ivanovic a straight sets thrashing.
Incredibly, it looks like Venus is one of the main contenders for the title this week.

Williams will now face Daniela Hantuchova, who has also had to tread a difficult path to get to the quarter-finals. The unseeded Slovakian began with a 6-4, 6-4 win against Jie Zheng, before going on to beat recently crowned French Open champion Na Li in a close-fought two setter. Hantuchova has a big task ahead of her, but she’s definitely a serious threat to Venus’s chances.

Williams has past form on her side going into this contest. The American has a superb 10-0 head to head record against the world No. 25, and has only lost 2 of the 22 sets that she’s played against her. Hantuchova has a chance to get back at Williams on Thursday, but it looks like the five-time Wimbledon champion is having no difficulties with getting back into competitive tennis.
