Venus Williams will hope to put her injury scare behind her when she plays Andrea Petkovic in round three of the Australian Open.
Venus suffered a major scare in the last round, pulling a muscle near her groin during a battling three set win over Sandra Zahlavova. The American screamed in pain and few expected her to return to the court, never mind go on to win. It just showed how much the major tournaments still mean to her, even in the twilight of her illustrious career.
The tournament has given her as much time to recover as they can, putting her as the final match of the night session on Rod Laver Arena.
Petkovic has created waves over the past year and the 23 year old looks like a name for the future. She reached the Brisbane final a couple of weeks ago but the good news for Venus is that she was very poor against qualifier Anne Keothavong in the last round, producing an error strewn performance which very nearly saw her crash out.
