Vania King and Melanie Oudin will meet on Tuesday in the first round of the WTA Monterrey Open

Vania King is currently the world No. 90, and enters this week’s WTA Monterrey Open in search of a second career title. In addition to picking up several wins in qualifiers, King currently has a 5-4 season record in tour level competition. She will begin her campaign in Monterrey with a first round clash against fellow American Melanie Oudin.

Oudin is the world No. 82, but has struggled so far this year. A first round defeat in Acapulco last week marked her seventh defeat in only nine matches, and she’ll be aiming to get her season back on track. Past form suggests that Oudin can emerge from this minor rut, and a series of good performances here in Monterrey could help her to turn things around.

King and Oudin have yet to meet in official WTA competition, and this match doesn’t appear to be easy to predict. Current form suggests that King can win this one, though Oudin is just about considered to be the favourite here.
