The home fans will no doubt be delighted to see that Sunday’s Valencia Open 500 final will be contested between David Ferrer and Marcel Granollers. Ferrer enters this match as the clear favourite, though Granollers has continued to surprise
this week, and shouldn’t be ruled out.

Ferrer’s aim this week has been to earn as many rankings points as possible with the ATP World Tour Finals on the horizon. At the moment it’s a case of so far so good for the No. 4 seed, but he’ll still be hoping for one more quality performance in Valencia. Whatever happens, he’ll also need to perform well in the BNP Paribas Masters 1000 next week to earn a berth in the end of season tournament.

Granollers is a lucky loser here, and was not expected to do quite so well. He’s currently the world number sixty-seven, and enters this match with a 21-20 record for the season. Whilst he’s beaten some difficult opponents here such as Gilles Simon and Juan Monaco, this will be his first match of the week against seeded opposition.
