Djokovic is the overwhelming favourite for the title after his incredible 2011 season which has so far since him win the Australian Open, Wimbledon, five Masters 1000 titles and ascend to the world number one spot.

Having twice finished runner-up in New York, Djokovic will be looking to land his fourth slam title over the next fortnight. He finished runner-up to Roger Federer in 2007 and again to Rafael Nadal last year and providing he has fully recovered from the shoulder injury which forced him to retire in the Cincinnati final, he will be supremely confident of going all the way.

That defeat a week ago was Djokovic's only loss on hard courts this year and if he hadn't been hampered by injury in that match he would have been strong favourite against Andy Murray.

Djokovic's draw will give himself a chance to work his way into the tournament. He starts against a qualifier and then will face either Pere Riba or Carlos Berlocq in round two, both journeymen who are most at home on clay. The first real test will come in the third round, probably against either Nikolay Davydenko or Nadal's Montreal conqueror Ivan Dodig.

Djokovic will be happy with his quarter of the draw. At that stage he would be likely to face either Tomas Berdych or Gael Monfils, both opponents he holds convincing head-to-head records against.
