Tommy Haas v Novak Djokovic preview

Djokovic should avenge his loss to Haas at Halle last month.

Novak Djokovic and Tommy Haas are squaring off in what looks to be the closest Wimbledon quarterfinals match this year on the men's side.  The other matches all have a clear favorite in Murray, Federer, and Roddick, but this one, between Haas and Djokovic, does not appear one sided.

The major claim for picking Hass, as everyone knows, is that he beat Djokovic (for the first time in three attempts) a few weeks ago at a Wimbledon prep in Halle, Germany in front of a partisan German crowd.  The scoring line was a little one sided in Haas' favor, but Djokovic did take down a set in falling on the grass courts at that tournament, the Gerry Weber Open.  That result, however, should not be the only measuring stick used to try to predict who is going to win July 1st's matchup.

Haas has had an odd Wimbledon in at least one respect.  Even though he had his second round matchup handed to him after only 7 games due to his opponent retiring, Haas has played a total of 919 points in Wimbledon 2009 and that's more points than anyone else remaining in the field of 8.  At the age of 31 that has to be fatiguing and Djokovic, only aged 22, should be the fresher of the two players especially since he has been very efficient in eliminating his opponents, having only played 783 points so far at Wimbledon this year (the second fewest points played).

Haas has been a warrior, he wants it bad, and his girlfriend is gorgeous, but at this point in Wimbledon everyone's a warrior, everyone wants it bad, and everyone has a gorgeous girlfriend/wife.

Haas has played competitive tennis especially against Marin Cilic in the third round, but really that Croatian player was Haas' only test and Cilic is not yet a warrior, having failed to get past the fourth round in 10 slams now.  If Cilic was close, then Djokovic shouldn't be because he is the fourth best player in the world, much better than Cilic, and he, Djokovic, has been below the radar for much of this tournament, likely because of his early exit at the French and his loss in Halle.

It really looks like the end of the road for Haas who is a +225 (9/4) underdog with bet365.
Our recommendation is to pick Djokovic to win this match at -275 (4/11) straight up or to win in four sets at +300 (3/1).
