Second seed Tomas Berdych will take on Viktor Troicki on Friday in the quarter-finals of this year’s Gerry Weber Open

Tomas Berdych has been forced to work hard for his place in the quarter-finals of this year’s Gerry Weber Open, but remains in contention for the title. The world No. 7 was the runner-up at Wimbledon last year, and will surely take some stopping once he’s gotten used to the grass courts. He’s escaped from two close matches, and will now be eyeing up his first title of the season.

Unfortunately for Berdych, his next match will be against world No. 12 Viktor Troicki. Berdych will be the favourite here, but he could be in for another challenging contest on Friday. Troicki has a 25-13 match record for the season, and has every right to believe that he should be considered as a serious title contender as well.

Prior to this showdown, Berdych has a 1-1 head to head record against Troicki. The Serb claimed a victory in 2009 at Indian Wells (6-3, 6-1), but Berdych avenged the defeat the following year in the same event (6-1, 6-3). Berdych is being tipped for success this time around, but Troicki has made the more confident return to grass so far, and might just pull through.
